Celebrations as Eltham North playground build progresses

The rebuild of the Eltham North Adventure Playground has reached a significant milestone, with the roof going onto the main structure.

To celebrate the progress of the playground, Nillumbik Council is hosting a Topping Out Ceremony for the community this Thursday, November 1 from 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm.

Festivities start at 4 pm and include a sausage sizzle and activities for the kids (but please remember the playground is not ready to play on yet).

Council will address the community and give an update on the project.

Parking is available on site, with further parking at Edendale and in Dansey’s Paddock.

No need to RSVP. We look forward to seeing you there.

A Topping Out Ceremony is an ancient tradition which signifies reaching a building’s structural milestone; a sprig or wreath is attached to the top of a new building to bring good luck for the rest of the build and the future of the structure.

Mayor Peter Clarke said Council is looking forward to acknowledging this significant point in the build.

“The Eltham North Adventure Playground was much-loved by the community, and its destruction by fire last year was truly devastating,” Cr Clarke said.

“We will be celebrating the hard work of everyone involved in this important project in our Topping Out Ceremony. The project is a great example of Council and the community working together.”

Edendale Ward Councillor John Dumaresq is looking forward to the Topping Out Ceremony and the completion of the playground.

“We’re aware of the significance the playground holds for families with young children and our broader community,” Cr Dumaresq said.

“The original playground was an iconic Eltham landmark and the new playground will no doubt become an important part of life and play for local families.”
