Bomb Squad seal off Eltham home

UPDATE 12pm: Police have safely detonated a bomb located at a Eucalyptus Rd, Eltham home. There is no threat to public safety and police continue to search the property.

The Bomb Squad has sealed off a Eucalyptus Rd, Eltham home after an explosive device was discovered around 5 am this morning.

“The Bomb Response Unit safely detonated a homemade device located at an address on Eucalyptus Road in Eltham just after 5am. The address was cordoned off as a precaution,” police spokeswoman Belinda Batty said.

It is understood to be a home-made pipe bomb. A police spokesperson confirmed the finding but would not elaborate further.

The SES arrived on scene around 7.50 am to begin sandbagging the property as police continue cordoning off the property.
