Nillumbik Mayor Peter Clarke congratulated the new presidents of the Diamond Creek and Eltham Rotary Clubs and is looking forward to working with them over the coming year.
Kerry Jones handed over the reins as president of the Rotary Club of Diamond Creek to Alicia Hall, while Jill Ramsay has taken over from Judy Sharp as president of the Eltham Rotary Club.
Cr Clarke said Council would continue to lend its support to worthy initiatives including Shakespeare in the Park, the Diamond Creek Rotary Town Fair and the Rotary Eltham Town Festival.
“It has been a pleasure to work with both Rotary clubs – we are united in striving to serve our community,“ Cr Clarke said.
“I am also delighted that women continue to hold the top positions in these community organisations. Council strives for gender equality and empowering women in the workforce, and it is good to see this reflected in the wider community.”
Ms Jones said Shakespeare in the Park, which the Rotary Club supported both financially and in help with the production, was the highlight of the year with more than 1800 people attending. They Bard was so good the club plans to run another production in February next year.
“We‘ve worked closely with Council on so many projects, like the Diamond Creek Men’s Shed revamp,” Ms Jones said. “Cr Clarke has been fabulous to deal with!”
As the new president of the Eltham Rotary Club, Ms Ramsay plans on continuing the good work that is being done.
“We work closely with Council, together we are much stronger,” Ms Ramsay said.
The clubs’ next top events (supported by Council grants) are:
- Diamond Creek Rotary Town Fair, Saturday September 8 with the grand parade starting at 10am. It includes stalls, the CFA Torch Light Parade, entertainment on the main stage and a fireworks display.
- Rotary Eltham Town Festival, starting 10am on Saturday and Sunday November 10 and 11. Highlights include Farmer Darryl’s Mobile Farm, Have a Go, three stages of music including Battle of the Bands, skateboard competition, carnival, and SES and CFA demonstrations.
