CORIO, VIC. — Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) will hold a community meeting at the Cloverdale Community Centre, Purnell Road, Corio from 7pm this evening.
“The safety of the community, first responders and Viva Energy employees has been and remains our highest priority,” an FRV spokesperson said
“While the fire at the refinery has been extinguished, FRV continues to manage the incident. Firefighters remain at the scene to ensure there is no risk.
“Work continues on site to make it safe for FRV and WorkSafe to investigate the cause of the fire, assisted by Energy Safe Victoria,” the FRV spokesperson said.
Viva Energy is assisting in the investigation.
“FRV has atmospheric monitoring equipment on-site to locate and treat leaks as they appear.
“FRV has conducted air quality, surface and water runoff testing, and there are no contamination concerns for the community. Viva Energy’s environmental experts are also supporting FRV with testing on-site.
“Once the scene has been made safe, the incident will be handed over to Viva Energy for the beginning of recovery activities and the continued operation of the site.
“The Community Advice message has been downgraded to a Community Information message in line with the reduced risk.
“Residents should continue to stay informed via the VicEmergency app, website, hotline and emergency broadcasters,” the FRV spokesperson said.
