DOCKLANDS, VIC. — Two males have been charged after an arson attack at a restaurant in Docklands early Saturday morning.
Police will allege the two males smashed glass doors and entered a restaurant on Docklands Drive about 3.30am on Saturday, May 2.
Accelerant was allegedly poured inside the venue before it was set alight.
The fire caused minor damage to the building before it was extinguished.
Police will allege the males fled south on Docklands Drive, where they attempted to get into an allegedly stolen vehicle, before being disturbed by uniform officers who were patrolling the area.
They allegedly ran from the scene.
Police searched the area and located two males allegedly hiding under the Bolte Bridge in Ron Barassi Snr Park, and they were arrested without further incident.
A third male was located in a vehicle on Docklands Drive and arrested.
Police seized jerry cans from the car.
A 16-year-old boy from the Glen Eira area has been charged with criminal damage by fire, reckless conduct endangering life and burglary.
He is remanded to appear before a children’s court.
A 22-year-old Fitzroy North man has been charged with criminal damage by fire, reckless conduct endangering life and burglary.
He is remanded to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today, whilst a 19-year-old Collingwood man was interviewed by detectives and released pending further investigation into the incident.
Detectives from Operation Eclipse continue to review the matter to determine any alleged links to the current series of incidents targeting licensed premises across inner metropolitan Melbourne.
The operation was established last month to target a range of serious and organised crime syndicates believed to be involved in the offending, as well as determining the motive for these attacks.
