BURNSIDE, VIC. — A family of six escaped a large house fire at Fydler Avenue, Burnside, early on Friday morning, thanks to their working smoke alarms.
Firefighters were called to the incident at 2.56am following multiple calls to Triple Zero (000) reporting the blaze.
Crews arrived on scene within five minutes to find significant smoke and flames issuing from a single storey brick house.
Wearing breathing apparatus, crews got to work quickly using multiple hose lines to extinguish the fire.
The incident was declared under control at 3.31am.
The fire was contained to the building of origin, however, the house sustained significant damage in the fire.
“Two patients suffered burns to their hands and were transferred into the care of Ambulance Victoria paramedics,” an FRV spokesperson said.
The cause of the fire was believed to be a clothes dryer.
