Range of significant projects completed as part of Wallan Town Heart revitalisation

A Circle of Remembrance around the War Memorial, installation of a signalised pedestrian crossing and paving in front of the High Street shops are among significant works recently completed as part of the $4.1 million Wallan Town Heart revitalisation.

The project began in February and will transform the High Street precinct into a vibrant and more connected community space with better, and safer, links between the retail area and the Hadfield Park precinct.

The Hadfield Park side of the project is now largely completed, including a new Circle of Remembrance around the War Memorial.

Lighting around the Circle of Remembrance, another layer of granitic sand and tree planting will happen soon.

Meanwhile, paving is almost complete outside the High Street shops, with street furniture to be installed in the coming weeks.

To create safe access between both sides of the project, a signalised pedestrian crossing has now been installed, however will not be operational until the project is completed.

Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson said the pedestrian crossing was important in order to provide safe access between the High Street business precinct and Hadfield Park.

“One of the major aims of the Wallan Town Heart project is to connect the Hadfield Park precinct with the Wallan business district, and in order to achieve this it is important that people can easily, and safely, access both sides of High Street,” Cr Sanderson said.

“It is important to note that the new pedestrian crossing is user-operated, so the lights won’t change unless someone presses the button.

“We have also been working with VicRoads to ensure the new pedestrian crossing will be programmed to operate in sync with the other traffic lights along High Street to limit any impact on traffic flow.”

Cr Sanderson said it was exciting to see the project taking shape.

“We’re really excited to see the Wallan Town Heart revitalisation powering ahead and it won’t be long now until the project is completed, and our residents will have a fresh, new area to meet or catch up with friends.”

The Wallan Town Heart revitalisation is expected to be completed in early to mid-September.
