Victorian Young Achiever Awards 2018

MURRINDINDI SHIRE.

Is there a young person in Murrindindi Shire you think deserves recognition for their work in the community?

Shire Mayor, Charlie Bisset, calls on Shire residents to nominate young people in our communities who are making a difference.

“The Victorian Young Achiever Awards acknowledges, encourages and promotes the achievements of all young people up to and including 29 years of age,” Cr Bisset said.

“We all know of young people in our area who are working hard to improve our communities, whether from an entrepreneurial perspective or through volunteering.

“It would be great to see their work recognised and for them to know their efforts are appreciated and valued by all of us. It might also encourage others to get more involved in their communities too,” Cr Bisset said.

Cr Bisset said nominations are now open and will remain so until 18 December 2017. Judging starts March 13, 2018 and the winners will be announced at a Gala Awards Presentation on May 18, 2018.

The Victorian Young Achiever Awards categories include:

  • Academy Graphics Regional Achiever Award – recognising our regional and rural community contributors, whether their excellence is within a profession or an endeavour. It could also recognise those involved in volunteering, a regional initiative, project, or simply an act of bravery.
  • Bartercard Online Achievement Award – recognising a Victorian young achiever who demonstrates not only success in the online space, but conveys the character traits important to industry – creativity, innovation, agility and a keen interest in information technology.
  • Berry Street Create Change Award – acknowledges and celebrates the commitment young people make in achieving or participating in positive activities that empower change locally, nationally and/or internationally.
  • First National Real Estate Leadership Award – acknowledges young people who set an example through their leadership and drive, paving the way for others to follow.
  • Kangan Institute Inspirational TAFE Student Award – acknowledges young people whose passion, drive and willingness to learn and work hard, has helped them create opportunities and achieve excellence in their chosen field.
  • Royal Flying Doctor Service Victoria Regional and Rural Health Award – acknowledges the services, efforts, actions and positive input provided by volunteers, carers and health professionals. These young people create a sense of compassion and community spirit, which plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life of those who depend on them.
  • Saward Dawson Community Service and Social Impact Award – celebrates young social entrepreneurs, community service workers and volunteers who are dedicated to the needs of others and who seek innovative solutions to address social issues.
  • The Coffee Club Arts and Fashion Award – acknowledges those who strive for excellence, creativity and success. The Arts and Fashion Award highlights the importance of the Arts Industry and rewards the next generation of artists.
  • The Victorian Government Group Achievement in the Community Award – recognises young people who have worked together as a group to provide a service, program or project for other young people, which is based on consultation and engagement with young people and has resulted in positive, youth-led changes in a local community.
  • WFI Insurance Small Business Achiever Award – promotes those who “give it a go” through determination, innovation, hard work and self-motivation, rewarding those who make their own luck and opportunities a reality.

“I’d encourage everybody to get online and check out the Victorian Young Achiever Awards’ website – there you’ll find information about the awards, more information about the categories, easy to understand information about nominating and all the forms you’ll need to do so,” Cr Bisset said.

“Have a look at the past winners and then consider what our young people contribute – I think we have plenty of talented youth leaders to nominate.”
