Construction of a new sports pavilion at Marngrook Oval in Diamond Creek is officially under way.
The $2 million development is being funded by Council with $416,000 contributed from the State Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund.
Mayor Peter Clarke said the project went a long way toward Nillumbik’s aim to become the most liveable Shire in Australia.
“The new and improved facilities at this busy venue will be welcomed by the community,” Clarke said.
Chair of Social Infrastructure Bruce Ranken said various clubs will soon be enjoying the improvements.
“Several user groups regularly access Marngrook Oval, including the Diamond Creek Football Club, the Diamond Creek Cricket Club, and the Diamond Creek Runners,” Cr Ranken said.
“They will all benefit from these significant upgrades.”
The new pavilion will include four interconnected change rooms, accessible and umpire change facilities, a kiosk, public amenities, first aid room and storage space.
Ellis Ward Councillor Peter Perkins said the works are an important investment in sport and recreation in Diamond Creek.
“I’m happy that many years of hard work and lobbying by local sporting clubs has finally paid off and I’d like to acknowledge their contribution toward making Diamond Creek the great place that it is,” Perkins said.
