$234k for ‘female friendly’ facilities at Yea Recreation Reserve

Yea Recreation Reserve users will get a major upgrade thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes, MLC, last Wednesday joined Labor candidate for Eildon, Sally Brennan, and Murrindindi Shire to announce the delivery of female friendly change rooms to benefit the Yea Football and Cricket Clubs and junior football.

The $234,000 project will allow for more programs to increase female participation, by upgrading the outdated male only facilities to modern, accessible, unisex change rooms for home and away teams.

“This is a fantastic result for the Yea community, this is an important project that will help both the Yea Football and cricket clubs cater for more members as well as providing welcoming facilities for visiting teams.

“Football and netball clubs are the lifeblood of country Victoria, where families make friends, young players become stars and the community gathers to support and connect.

“Grassroots sports clubs in country Victoria make our communities tick, I’m delighted that Labor is giving them the facilities they need to keep evolving,” Symes said.

Wednesday’s announcement follows the opening of the new Yea Showgrounds and Recreation Reserve multi-purpose courts and lighting – home of the Yea Tigers Football Netball Club and Yea Tennis Club – in 2016.
