Emergency services were called to reports a vehicle had been found in a paddock off Clyde Hill Road, Bannockburn about 7.05 am.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 50-year-old Russels Bridge man, died at the scene.
It appears the vehicle had come off the road and crashed into a tree.
The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined and investigations remain ongoing.
