The Victorian Government will make an electronic ticketing option available to regional and rural Victorians accessing regional public transport from September 18.
Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams today announced that eTicketing ‘e-tickets’ would make taking a journey with V/Line easier.
“Since the introduction of the regional fare cap, long-distance V/Line services have become more popular than ever before,” Williams said.
The new ticketing system will provide passengers with a link to their ticket via email or SMS when making reservations for long-distance rail or V/Line coach travel.
Passengers will no longer be required to visit staffed VLine stations, VLine ticket agents, or premium suburban stations to collect paper tickets. This option will, however, remain available.
The new e-tickets can be added to a passenger’s Apple or Google Wallet, or downloaded as a PDF which can be printed at home.
“Passengers have told us that they want more options for how they receive their V/Line tickets and eTicketing means they can now be displayed on smartphones or printed at home,” Williams said.
The e-tickets will be available on V/Line scheduled coach services and the Albury, Ararat, Bairnsdale, Echuca, Maryborough, Shepparton, Swan Hill and Warrnambool train lines.
Tickets will also cover additional travel on metropolitan trains, trams and buses.
