Garage fire in Lower Plenty tonight

A garage fire at Cleveland Avenue, Lower Plenty commenced tonight as the first fire truck arrived on scene to find a single storey garage fully involved in fire.

Five pumpers (MFB and CFA) , an aerial unit and ancillary units attended with 23 firefighters attending a blaze in Lower Plenty this afternoon.

There was no one home when firefighters first arrived on scene before donning breathing apparatus to begin an aggressive attack on the garage whilst attempting to protect the attached home.

“The Lower Plenty property is large, and access to water was problematic, with Country Fire Authority (CFA) appliances accessing water from a dam on the property and MFB appliances relaying water from street mains,” MFB Commander Brett Cowcher said.

At 4:48pm the fire was declared under control whilst the garage, containing two cars was completely destroyed. The fire also entered the roof space. Firefighters managed to cut it off at the kitchen.
