AUSTRALIA — In April 2025, Trump’s America slapped a 10 per cent tariff on Aussie beef, yet America responded by buying 17 per cent more Aussie beef at record prices.
The initial logic behind Trump’s tariffs was to protect struggling American farmers, but what happened was the opposite, with even McDonald’s USA increasing Australian beef imports to their US operations.
The surge occurred directly thanks to Trump and his GOP cabinet, with US cattle herds at a 70-year low adding to the problem.
Australia produces clean, lean, grass-fed ‘clean trim’ trim that’s perfect for processing, and Australian beef doesn’t have all the chemicals pumped into it that American cattle farmers pump their herds up with. Doing such is illegal in Australia.
US importers paid more, and US burger chains passed on the cost to US consumers, as Aussie exporters and Australian cattle farmers laughed all the way to the bank.
Due to public holidays and the Christmas-New Year break, a spokesperson from Meat and Livestock Australia or the National Livestock Reporting Service was not available for comment.
