Police tonight charged a man after it is alleged a stolen white Toyota Land Cruiser drove through Northland Shopping Centre, Preston, to avoid police yesterday.

Officers were alerted to an allegedly stolen vehicle by shopping centre security at the Murray Road shopping centre about 4.02pm on Wednesday 18 June.

The alleged offender watched footage of a Land Cruiser ploughing through Northland shopping centre, the Ivanhoe East man joked with his family that the vehicle could be his stolen four-wheel drive. Then the police came knocking.

The alleged offender has been charged with:

• two counts of aggravated and intentional exposure of a police officer to risk by driving;

• reckless conduct endangering life;

• theft of a motor vehicle;

• handling stolen goods;

• driving whilst disqualified; and

• criminal damage.

He appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
