Detectives are appealing for public assistance after a man was stabbed during a New Year’s Eve celebration in Sorrento.
It is understood an altercation occurred between a group of males on Point Nepean Road, near Collins Parade and Calcutta Street on January 1, 2025, at about 2am.
The victim, an 18-year-old man from Melbourne, was stabbed five times during the altercation. He escaped and ran to his friends.
He was later taken to hospital with serious upper body injuries and required stitches for his injuries.
The offenders fled the scene before police arrived.
Detectives believe up to 10 males were involved, who were perceived to be African, Middle Eastern or Mediterranean in appearance, between 17 and 21 years old and wearing Nike Tech Fleece clothing in black or grey, and ski masks or hoods.
The main offender has been described as having dark skin, and four-inch-long braids. Police estimate the alleged offender is 19 to 21 years old and was wearing Nike Tech Fleece clothing.
Investigators are also keen to speak with people in the area at the time who may have witnessed the altercation.
