Murrindindi to launch new Visitor Guide

A new Official Visitor Guide to Murrindindi Shire is under development to replace the bi-annual ‘What’s On Murrindindi‘ brochure and revive the Visitor Guide.

Murrindindi Shire Council Mayor Sandice McAulay said Council has been working hard to grow the number of visitors to our towns and attractions, and the length of time visitors are staying locally.

“An [sic] printed annual Visitor Guide will really complement our existing online and printed promotional material, and help us spread the message of how many great things there are to see and do in our Shire,” Cr McAulay said.

“To date, Council’s Tourism and Events team have been producing a smaller brochure twice a year, the ‘What’s On Murrindindi’ brochure (formerly called the ‘Calendar of Events’).

The last time we had a Visitor Guide booklet was more than 10 years ago.

This Visitor Guide booklet will replace the biannual ‘What’s On Murrindindi’ brochure and will include a map of the region, schedule of upcoming events and activities, list of camping locations and where to find our Visitor Information Centres.

“With the success of Council’s ‘What’s On Murrindindi’ e-newsletter, we are better able to work with local event organisers to promote upcoming events and activities in a timelier manner.

So while the annual Visitor Guide will highlight annual events – such as the Alexandra Truck, Ute & Rod Show, Marysville Jazz & Blues Festival and Foggy Mountain Festival – it will focus mainly on promoting Murrindindi Shire’s natural attractions and townships.

“Local tourism and traders’ associations have been positive and supportive of the Visitor Guide project. Council’s Tourism and Events team will be engaging further with these groups in the initial stages of the design and content process,” Cr McAulay said.

“We’re aiming to have the new Visitor Guide ready to launch at the Visitor Information Summit on at Holmesglen @ Eildon this August.

This will be a good opportunity to get the booklet into the hands of 150 tourism industry professionals from around the state so they can refer prospective visitors to Murrindindi Shire.

After that, we will be distributing copies of the Visitor Guide to our local Visitor Information Centres, businesses and other tourism outlets around Victoria, including in Melbourne.

“This will mean, however, that there will be a short period between the Guide being released and the period covered by the current ‘What’s On’ brochure. During this time, we will be supplying printed copies of the monthly ‘What’s On Murrindindi’ posters to support promotion of events across the Shire,” Cr McAulay said.

The new Visitor Guide is set to be released later this year.
