Power line replacement accelerated

HEALESVILLE.

A total of 43km of high voltage powerlines in Healesville will be replaced with safer technology by January 2018.

Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Lily D’Ambrosio visited Healesville on Friday (September 22) to view the works.

“We’re keeping the residents of Healesville and the surrounding areas safer from the risk of bushfires … it’s practical action,” D’Ambrosio said.

The district will also benefit by the installation of a sophisticated protection device at the Woori Yallock zone sub-station which will protect over 650km of powerlines.

Three back-up generators for residential care facilities in Healesville and nine generators for residential care facilities in the Yarra Valley.

Regional Victorians interested in applying to the Powerline Replacement Fund to underground bare-wire overhead powerlines must apply before February 2018.

Works are part of government’s $750 million ‘Powerline Bush Safety Program’ which was established following the Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission’s recommendation to reduce the risk of powerlines starting bushfires.
