Shire struggling as drought creates dusty roads

Murrindindi Shire struggling to maintain over 600 kilometres of unsealed (gravel) roads.

Shire Mayor Sandice McAulay stated the exceptionally dry period Murrindindi Shire (and northeast Victoria) have experienced this summer has made dust a real pain on council’s unsealed roads.

“We understand that the dust coming off these roads is a nuisance for people and we are trying our best to minimise it where we can,” Cr McAulay said.

“We are asking drivers to be mindful of the impact of dust on people and animals by reducing your speed when travelling on unsealed roads.

“Just have a look out your rear-view window and you’ll see how much dust even the most compact of cars can kick up!

“The dust gets into animal’s water troughs, on clean washing on clotheslines and can aggravate people’s allergies.”

“Fingers crossed we get a decent rain soon!” Cr McAulay concluded.
