McLeish announces free flu vaccinations

PARLIAMENT HOUSE, MELBOURNE.

State Member for Eildon, Cindy McLeish announced that if elected next year a coalition government will provide up to $7 million over four years for free voluntary flu vaccinations for all Victorian children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years old.

“Given the terrible flu season we have recently experienced, the Liberal Party want to ensure that the youngest in our community are protected from harm,” McLeish said.

“Many parents do not have their children vaccinated against the flu, because of the costs of or concerns about the vaccine. Funding the vaccine for young children will provide a strong incentive and and clear message that the safety and wellbeing of their children is paramount and flu vaccinations are recommended,” McLeish said.

“Daniel Andrews just wants to pass the buck to the Federal Government …” McLeish said.

Shadow Minister for Health, Mary Wooldridge said a Liberal-Nationals state goverment wants to protect our youngest citizens.

“This commitment should give parents the confidence that the flu vaccination is a safe and effective way to protect their children,” Wooldridge said.

Labor has been contacted for comment.
