Kinglake’s First XI travelled to J.C. Donath Oval to play the first day of a two-day match against Keon Park’s Third XI in the (E-Grade) Sault Shield on Saturday.

Keon Park won the toss and elected to bat first. After 47.3 overs Kinglake had dismissed Keon Park for a total of 220 runs, including 8 byes and 17 no-balls. Keon Park’s O. Bellingham 58, and T. McSwain 60 were their best batsmen.

Kinglake’s first innings bowling figures were James Gibbs 12-1-2-61, Jason Gaffee 10-2-0-35, Edward O’Hara 7-0-1-42, Damian Fitzpatrick 6-3-3-3-23, Simon Andrews 6-1-2-30 and Lakers captain Daniel Brown 6-1-1-21.

Excellent fielding by Kinglake saw James Edwards (wicketkeeper) taking two catches and also affecting a run out from a return sent in by Daniel Brown. Other catches were from Edward O’Hara, Jason Gaffee, and Daniel Brown. Keon Park’s other four batsmen were all directly bowled out.

This left 22 overs for Kinglake to face prior to stumps. Opening batsmen James Edwards and Jason Gaffee put on a partnership of 98 runs before James was caught by D. Pollard for 42 (from 41 balls) just after Jason made his second half-century.

Jason then went on to be 88 (not out) from 60 balls faced at stumps. Jason’s tally included fifteen fours and a six.

Alex Hybinett then went in as first drop and managed one run from 20 balls before being run out in freakish circumstances following a full drive by Jason being deflected by the bowler to hit the stumps just as Alex left the crease for a run. Their partnership was 22 runs.

Simon Andrews then went in to bat and was 0 (not out) from 11 balls faced with the score standing at 138/2 when stumps were called by umpire Eddie Jones. Kinglake now needs to make 83 runs from 70 overs to take the first innings points when play resumes next Saturday, November 19 at J.C Donath Reserve, Keon Park.
