On 3AW this afternoon, former Mornings presenter and journalist Neil Mitchell told Afternoons host Tony Moclair that the Liberal Party and National Party “should separate.”

The longstanding Coalition agreement between both parties is in jeopardy, as National MPs prepare to meet in Canberra today, while Liberal MPs will vote on a new leader tomorrow.

“Nothing is working, that was obvious in the election,” NEIL Mitchell said.

“It seems bizarre that they’re going through this bitter public debate … they need far more than a new leader,” Neil Mitchell said about the Liberal Party.

“In a practical sense, [Liberals] they’ve lost all their city seats.

“Now, just in a practical they’re not going to get back their city seats if their going into battle with a partner [Nationals] who say “burn more coal”,” Neil Mitchell said.

“The Liberals and [the] Nationals are in the death throes, I mean they are in survival mode,” he said.
