WET THROUGH CENTRAL AND EASTERN VICTORIA WITH THE RISK OF HEAVY RAINFALL.
The Bureau of Meteorology today re-issued at 11:04am a Severe Weather Warning for Heavy Rainfall for people in the North Central, North East, West and South Gippsland and parts of Central, East Gippsland and Northern Country Forecast Districts.
Flash flooding has been reported in Melbourne suburbs Donvale, Niddrie, Bundoora, Glen Iris, Bulleen, Alphington, Rosanna, Lower Plenty and Mill Park. (As at 12pm).
A slow moving low pressure trough over central Victoria will move east during Tuesday.
HEAVY RAIN from showers and thunderstorms which may lead to FLASH FLOODING across central Victoria is expected to contract to eastern districts this afternoon then ease during the evening.
A further 5 to 15mm is likely across western parts of the warning area by early afternoon, with the potential for some heavier totals up to 30mm.
Falls of 15 to 30mm are possible across eastern parts of the warning area, with higher totals of 30 to 50mm across elevated areas and with thunderstorms.
Locations which may be affected include Shepparton, Seymour, Melbourne, Wodonga, Wangaratta and Traralgon.
The highest totals to 11am since 9am yesterday include:
– 43mm at Sunbury; 37mm at Upper Lang Lang; 36mm at Blue Mountain; 27mm at Footscray; 21mm at Melbourne (Olympic Park).
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Don’t walk, ride or drive through flood water;
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains;
* Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks;
* Be alert that in areas recently affected by fires, heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads;
The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEDT Monday.
