Following the forced termination of Mayor Aidan McLindon, Whittlesea City Council will tonight hold an unscheduled meeting.
Aidan McLindon has been suspended as Mayor and Councillor for six months by Local Government Minister Nick Siaikos.
The meeting will be held at Council Chambers, 25 Ferres Boulevard, South Morang, commencing at 6pm.

Notice of Unscheduled Council Meeting
An Unscheduled Council Meeting has been called to consider the following items of business:
- Election of a Mayor to serve the remaining period of the previous Mayor’s term, and in the event the current Deputy Mayor is elected Mayor, the election of a Deputy Mayor for the remaining period of the Deputy Mayor’s term.
- Tabling of the Governor in Council Order.
- Tabling of the Election Report for Whittlesea City Council 2024 Local Government Elections.
The election of a Mayor cannot be safely or conveniently considered at the next Scheduled Council Meeting, as a Mayor, in accordance with section 26 (6) of the Local Government Act 2020, must be elected within one month after any vacancy in the office of Mayor occurs.
Additionally, a Governor in Council Order given to the Council in accordance with section 229A (4) of the Local Government Act 2020 must be tabled and recorded in the minutes of the next Council meeting.
The Local Government (Electoral) Regulations 2020 require a copy of the Election Report for Whittlesea City Council 2024 Local Government Elections must be submitted to the Council at the earliest practicable meeting after the CEO receives the report.
Public questions and submissions are not permitted at Unscheduled Council Meetings in accordance with the Council’s Governance Rules and the meeting is closed to the public.
